I generally love seeing different interpretations of Oz characters, but it kind of bugs me how often the Tin Woodman is depicted as a robot! He doesn't have any mechanical parts. He's entirely hollow. I hope my design doesn't look too robotic.
When I paired his thick tin can forearms with skinny upper arms, I was thinking of Popeye. It's a fun way to make a cartoon character look tough. I thought I was being super original using tin cans, but I should've realized lots of people've incorporated tin cans into the Tin Man design. It's kind of an obvious thing to do, in retrospect.
Before he became a tin man, he was a flesh and blood Munchkin, so he's not very tall. I wanted him to look a bit like a lumberjack. I hope I got that across.
Anyway, I didn't change that much from how this scene played out in the book.
